博彩平台排名’s 一年级的课程 (FYS) introduces you to a topic of your choice from over 40 subjects. It also brings you into a close-knit community of first-year students who will be your seminar companions in a small class cohort. Taught by faculty members from disciplines across the University, your FYS group will also work with the same professor all year.

While engaged in seminar topics ranging from fairy tales, 到职业摔跤, to living a meaningful life, you’ll be constantly challenged to develop the capacity to think and write clearly, 批判性的, 和创造性的. 一年级的课程 (FYS) introduces students to the interactive classroom by providing a venue for self-discovery within a supportive community. 教师 members with expertise from disciplines across the university offer over forty different seminars. These seminars engage students in the best practices of civil and constructive conversation. As students explore and interrogate their topics, 他们学会思考, 说话, 写得更清楚, 独立, 批判性的, 和令人信服地. In these peer-centered discussions and collaborations, FYS students prepare to take the next steps in their academic, 专业, 个人旅行.

Student Learning Objectives

  1. To develop the capacity to think and write clearly, 批判性的, 和创造性的.
  2. To introduce the student to effective habits for academic success.
  3. To reflect on important issues of the self, and in relation to local and global communities.
  4. To recognize and reflect on their own personal perspectives and biases.
  5. To learn and practice civil discourse in a constructive community.
  6. To learn to evaluate the quality, accuracy and appropriateness of evidence.

女性书写世界, an FYS taught by 教授essor Natalie Carter, focuses on a wide variety of texts by women who represent global cultures. 在课程中, students analyze literature, 电影, 新闻项目, and other cultural materials as a means for understanding, 内工作, and changing the systems—political, 社会, 经济, religious—that define women in our world.
